International Baccalaureate Organisation, the IBO and Europaskolan
Two governing bodies: extensive local and international evaluation
Europaskolan is an authorized IBO world school. The Middle Years Programme went from candidate to fully authorized status in January of 2008. The Primary Years Programme -Vasastan campus- similarly received their unconditional authorization as of May 2009. The Södermalm primary school was authorized in April 2011.
As a result of ES's status as an IBO world school both lower and upper elementary as well as the junior high school adhere to both the IBO's international curriculum and the Swedish National Curriculum LPO-94. The extensive evaluation and scrutiny involved from both local and international observers ensures high academic excellence for your child from beginning through graduation from Europaskolan. The difference between the IBO curriculum and the Swedish LPO-94 is foremost the global perspective imbedded in the academic work of an IBO world student. Furthermore, the PYP and MYP curriculums are designed to ensure a meaningful progression, or "red thread", in a child's academic studies throughout their education. The combination of the Swedish National Curriculum allows for children to receive both a ‘global’ and ‘local’ education simultaneously.
Leadership and Collaboration
The Primary Years Program is under the guidance of Jasmine Chai at our Södermalm branch and Christiane Candella in Vasastan while Ulf Jonsson leads the Middle Years Programme at the Södermalm campus. Although ES maintains two distinct locations, the sheer nature of the IBO framework ensures that both students and staff maintain close working relationships between the two campuses. From the students to administration the two schools work side by side to share knowledge, experiences and learn from one another continuously.
Professional development
As part of the IBO world school community, Europaskolan teachers share a common pedagogy and understanding with over 7,000 other IBO world schools all over the globe. As a global community of learners we as a school strive to be lifelong learners as a staff and a student body.
ES is committed to ensuring the highest quality of instruction in so much that teachers and administration receive ongoing professional development opportunities both within Sweden an internationally at IBO workshops and conferences. The ES teachers and administrators alike meet and learn from other educators around the world to further deeper their understanding of good teaching practices using an inquiry-based approach to learning.
Our collective planning methodology, transdisciplinary themes, and research-based methods for assessment and evaluation of the students effectively ensure continuity and high quality in the education of all ES students.
